Who is responsible
Andy Wills operates this personal website at www.andywills.info and is responsible for the personal information he processes through it. It is not a University of Plymouth website. For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, email andy@willslab.co.uk.
This notice covers pages maintained in this website’s repository, including the legacy research-data pages. Linked services and separately maintained projects, including RMINR, may have different privacy arrangements.
Your choice about analytics
Google Analytics is off unless you choose “Accept analytics”. Rejecting analytics does not restrict access to this site. Before acceptance, this site does not load Google Analytics or send it analytics events, including cookieless consent pings.
Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to accept, reject or withdraw your consent. Your choice applies to this browser on this website; other browsers and devices need their own choice. Withdrawing stops future collection and removes the accessible Google Analytics cookies for this site. It does not automatically erase information already received by Google. Contact Andy about deletion requests.
Your preference and its expiry date are saved in your browser’s local storage under andywills.analytics-consent.v1 for 90 days. This storage is used only to remember your choice, not to identify you or track visits. After expiry you will be asked again. If storage is unavailable, an acceptance applies only to the current page visit. Without JavaScript, analytics remains off.
What optional analytics collects and why
If you consent, Google Analytics 4 helps Andy understand which pages are used and improve the website. It can process page titles and addresses, referring pages, interactions, visit times, browser/device information, approximate location and cookie identifiers. Your browser connects to Google, which receives connection information including your IP address; see Google’s explanation of Analytics data collection.
The legal basis for this optional processing is your consent. The site’s tag disables Google signals and advertising personalisation and denies advertising storage and advertising user-data consent. Google signals and user-provided data collection are off in the property settings; advertising personalisation and granular location/device collection are also disabled. The initial page-view configuration removes query strings and fragments from the page and referrer addresses. Do not put confidential information into website URLs.
Analytics cookies include _ga and _ga_14MBRS9W2N, used to distinguish browsers and sessions. The site requests a 90-day cookie lifetime without extending that lifetime on each visit. Browser settings may shorten it. Consent preferences are separate from these cookies.
Google Analytics settings checked on 23 September 2026 retain event-level data for 2 months and user-level data for 14 months, with user retention reset on new activity. These settings do not control all aggregated reports, which may remain available longer. Cookie expiry is not the same as server-side data retention. See Google’s retention explanation.
Hosting and page resources
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub records visitors’ IP addresses for security, including when analytics is rejected. See GitHub Pages information and GitHub’s privacy statement.
Some pages retrieve fonts, styles or JavaScript libraries from Google Fonts, StackPath/BootstrapCDN, Cloudflare’s cdnjs, jsDelivr and jQuery’s CDN. These requests expose connection information such as IP address and browser information to the providers. They are separate from the optional Google Analytics tag. The purpose is to display and operate the website; Andy’s basis for necessary site delivery and security processing is legitimate interests in providing a functioning, secure information resource. Provider-controlled technical-log retention is described in their privacy information, rather than governed by the Analytics settings above.
The old FreeVisitorCounters scripts have been removed.
Recipients and international processing
Optional analytics information is processed by Google and made available to Andy through Analytics reports. GitHub and the resource providers above process the requests needed to serve their resources. Their infrastructure and processing may be outside the UK, including in the United States. Google describes its processor terms and international-transfer arrangements in its data processing terms and transfer framework information. GitHub describes its arrangements in its privacy statement linked above.
Contact and your rights
If you email Andy, your email address and the information you send are used to respond and handle your enquiry, on the basis of legitimate interests in dealing with correspondence. Relevant correspondence is kept while needed for that purpose or to meet an applicable legal obligation; you can ask about a particular message or request deletion. Please avoid sending sensitive information unnecessarily.
Depending on the circumstances, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal information, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing. Andy may need enough information to verify and locate your data; Analytics cookie identifiers do not by themselves provide your name or email address.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. You may also have rights to complain to your local supervisory authority.
Changes
This notice will be updated when the website’s processing changes. Material changes to the purpose of optional analytics will require a fresh choice.
